Become a mentor and help someone to walk free from addiction, reach goals and aspire to greater things. We provide a comprehensive training and supervision package enabling you to empower our service users. An Inside Out mentor is required to volunteer one hour per week to a service user.
What some of our mentors think:
Inside Out has an amazing team of Mentors, who have the privilege of walking alongside people while their lives are changed from the inside out as they engage with our Recovery Course. This 12-step course is founded on the belief that Jesus is the ultimate higher power and as John 8:32 says; “Whom the Son sets free is free indeed.” Jesus is the key to freedom from the tyranny of addiction. I love this project and most of all, the people that have the courage and commitment to engage with it and see their lives transformed from the Inside Out.
I joined InsideOut two years ago as I felt a calling to become more involved with those looking to seek recovery from addictions. I joined a group and completed the same sixteen-week course as every other member of the group and this involved biblical-based teaching sessions, followed by discussion and finally the chance to complete written work where the principles of the course could be applied to your own situation. This is important as I needed to understand the different steps to be able to mentor people. The next step was to facilitate a small discussion group and then mentor individuals. The mentor program involves walking with people who are committed to completing the course and giving them practical help and guidance in achieving their goals. Some of these relationships have lasted weeks and others over 18 months – there is no individual formula and every case is different. We have seen salvations during this time and people who have made massive progress in their life, and we have also unfortunately seen people lapse back into their addiction again.
Inside Out believes in the power of prayer, we hold monthly prayer meeting at various sites as well as a prayer chain surrounding our work and service users with prayer.
Our prayer meetings are a great opportunity to stay updated with the work of Inside Out, hear testimonies and meet like-minded people within your community. Just in case that isn’t enough . . . there’s always cake!
Inside Out hosts various events throughout the year and so we are always on the lookout for volunteers to help facilitate these. Can you make a cup of tea? Or even just smile and greet someone? If so, our events team is for you! Serving on our events team is a great way to get a feel for the work of Inside Out, so if you just want a taste to see if we’re for you, come along and we’ll be glad to show you around.
